Look! Up in the sky! It's... : Our eagle-eyed athletic trainer, Rich Taddei, and athletic department secretary, Henri Cobb, spotted an unusual sight in a tree just behind the football field / parade ground. Thought at first to be a bald eagle, a closer look revealed the bird of prey to be an osprey. Once endangered by pesticides twenty years ago, the population of ospreys is recovering and the Chesapeake Bay area boasts nearly 2,000 nesting pairs. It was a treat to see this one so far inland.

AP Gov't Class Visits State Capitol : On April 4, a group of juniors and seniors from the A.P. Government class visited the State Capitol for a tour by Dana Schrad, executive director of the Virginia Chiefs of Police, and Martin Johnson, Director of Government Relations for the Virginia Association of REALTORS. The cadets learned about lobbying, state government, and how the legislative process works. The morning included a visit with Delegate Watkins Abbitt, Secretary of Agriculture Robert Bloxom, and Felix Sarfo-Kantanka, Jr., Special Assistant to the Governor for Policy. The morning was completed with an introduction on the Senate floor by Del. Abbitt.

Debate Photos : This year Fork Union Military Academy will be represented by two cadets at The National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Tournament in Houston, Texas. Vernon (Chip) Miles and Young (Sean) Hong will travel to Houston on May 25th and will complete in Public Forum Debate. The resolution that they will be debating will not be released by the League until April 16, 2007.
